Hayden in a Spiral

11th grader Hayden was referred to Psychology 360 due to emotional health concerns related to anxiety. Hayden was experiencing significant symptoms of anxiety, especially in testing environments. She consistently felt nervous and worried, often was afraid of making mistakes, and frequently worried about the future. She was also struggling with reading comprehension. Teachers had shared concerns with Hayden’s parents as they commented that Hayden’s anxiety and nervousness were affecting her school work, especially when taking tests. With graduation and college approaching, Hayden’s parents elected to have their daughter professionally evaluated through Psychology 360 in order to get her the emotional health support that she greatly needed.

The Assessment

The Psychology 360 Diagnosis

A clinical interview with Hayden and collateral information collected from her family, school staff, and outside professionals indicated a long history of anxiety. Psychology 360 communicated with Hayden’s tutor, who shared that Hayden’s worries and fears were significantly impeding her academic performance. Academic testing results indicated weaknesses in the areas of orthographic processing and academic fluency. A diagnosis of Dyslexia and Generalized Anxiety Disorder was indicated.

Recommended Supports

Despite having no history of accommodations prior to her evaluation, Hayden’s parents used Psychology 360’s evaluation report in order to initiate services for Hayden’s remaining time in high school. Due to her diagnosis, she also qualified for accommodations on the ACT. Recommendations for standardized tests included extended time (i.e., time and one-half) and multi-day testing options.
